Not too sure what happened, but as of a few weeks ago the wireless signal on my router have gone down hill by a lot. The situation we have is there is one computer plugged in directly, and the other two wirelessly. I was racking up 130+ Mb/s wirelessly, and not sure why it decided to drop hard... we're talking 10-15 Mb/s. Anyone fairly knowledgeable in this area that can help me out?

Download a wifi scanner on your phone, Check to see how many routers are in your area & What channel's they are on.

It could be anything from interference from other access points to bad hardware.

Interference can be caused by anything from microwaves, CRT TVs, remote control RC toys, and other access points. 2.4ghz is an extremely crowded spectrum.

Before checking for bad hardware I suggest downloading a wifi analyser app on your phone to inspect the spectrum and see if it suggests a channel that is less crowded. I suggest this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en

Yeah I tried a couple of things prior to posting here, and I used my Netgear Genie app to check channels and my router was on a channel all on its own.

Is this a constant slowdown or does it happen randomly?

How is your signal strength, if possible move one of the devices closer to the router and try testing your speeds again.

Another thing to check for is to make sure your antennas are vertical. If they are not situated up and down it changes the polarization and you can see a massive degrade in performance.

It's consistently slow - never had issues with the 5G ports until a few weeks ago. I was able to always connect to the 2.4G but never bothered as it's hella slow in comparison

It's a Netgear Nighthawk - not a cheap router to just "replace"
besides I've only had it for 2 months

Look at the manual or search google for the defaulting process.

If it is similar to other routers there is a button on the back you hold for 30 seconds, unplug it for 30 seconds while holding the button, then plug it back in holding the button for another 30 seconds.

Or maybe that was to enter emergency flash mode to upgrade the firmware I forgot.

But basically try to reset it to default settings, the WEBUI may also have an option to do this.

Yeah I ran a factory reset and the default settings haven't changed anything. For those who can't understand how bad it really is...

This is worse than my internet 16 years ago

It's not like my internet itself is slow - that's a speed check directly off the router BIOS
