I've been struggling finding data in regards to a 1070 vs. SLI 980's.

Assuming I can get 2x 980 (non ti, gently used I know owner) for same price, or slightly less, than 1 1070. I game at 1440p, no vr or anything like that (cause I'm cheap) and prefer to have max settings. Noise from more fans isn't a factor neither is power or heat

Currently using a single 970, and am in no hurry with the exception my source on the 980's may dissipate.

Any advice is appreciated.

SLI 980s will win by a good 10-15% margin. Vram may be an issue if you plan on playing anything with extra shadows/details/visual mods on 1440p.

1070 would be good if you plan to play newer games as they come out.

THIS

Use this as a guide...note the frame rates for the various types of games, at the various resolutions. Keep in mind, that since the 1000 series has come out, many folks are selling their 900 series cards. But they are still used.

This is what I was looking for. Any hints where I can source this info for future reference, or is this just a comparison of the same benchmark?

Primarily will be playing Star Citizen, if it ever releases. Nothing else I've seen so far moves me, at least nothing that will require anything more than either choice will handle.

You posted as I did. Only interested in the 9 series since it's a trusted source, cards used with no OC under normal circumstances. If not for the offer I would go 1070 for sure, but good deal sways the cheapskate.

Either option will run Star Citizen at a bazillion frames per second.

Either option will crush Star Citizen. If you go with the 980's you will be going backwards.

After reading the system requirements...check this different benchmark
