A friend of mine recently got a laptop from kijiji and on her first few weeks of owning it, she dropped it off the couch and it no longer worked.
It came up as an hdd failure so I reseated it but still no good. So we bought a new hdd and I proceeded to replace it
It turns out that someone had attempted to change or replace the hdd already and stripped the living fuck out of the screw. Now I can't get the old hdd out of the enclosure. We've tried every trick Google has.

Any tips?

Tldr laptop hdd failed, go to replace hdd, screw for enclosure is stripped, can't get old hdd out of enclosure. Need help.

best bet.

can also melt a pen case like a bic pens outer case and place it on head till it cools then turn it
another trick is to use a rubber band between the screw and driver for traction.

/edit or if you have a steady hand you can drill it out. this is a last resort.

If op can't see the video he basically solders a resister to the screw head and turns it that way.
can be any metal tbh so long as its not to small of a gauge to bend.

clean head with alcohol
put a bead of solder in the head of the screw
Then proceed to solder your resistor or metal rod/dowel.
Grip it near base and start it once it moves remove by turning it from end for ease/speed.
