Hey guys,
I'm currently looking to buy an ultrabook or laptop with similar features.
Aiming for price of around $1000, though I wouldn't mind a little more than that.Looking for: (more or less in order of importance)
-
Long battery life - this is a must, as my grad school will be having classes the entire day some days. Aiming for a laptop that can be used 7+ hrs for notetaking (probably measured in a web browser test) on a single charge
-
Decent-sized storage - a lot of ultrabooks come with 256gb SSD. If possible in the price range, I'd prefer something with 512gb SSD. However, if the laptop is great in all other aspects, I'm willing to let this slide
-
Screen dimming - ideally a laptop that doesn't use PWM would be great, but if not possible, something with high enough frequency as to not cause eye strain or headaches will work (I have sensitive eyes

)
-
Size/weight - looking for 13" or 15" something not too bulky and is pretty portable. I'm more lenient on the weight than the size (really don't want a 17" laptop)
-
Keyboard - want a keyboard that's relatively comfortable and normal-sized. Don't want a keyboard that's too uncomfortable or squished
-
CPU - I'd prefer something that's not a Core-M, since I heard those are pretty underpowered. Therefore something with i5 or i7 would be ideal. Then again, I don't know too much about how good Core-M's are, so someone can correct me on this if I misunderstand it
-
Disk drive - most ultrabooks don't have CD drives, but a laptop that does would always be a plus (I don't mind the extra thickness)
-
Webcam - I notice a lot of smaller laptops have webcams at the bottom of the screen, which feels a bit weird to me, so I'd prefer a webcam on top. However, this isn't a big deal
-
GPU - Can't afford to be picky here, given everything else i'm looking for. Most likely the laptop will have integrated, but if it has something better, that's a plus. Definitely don't expect the laptop to be running graphics-intensive games
I've been eyeing the Asus Zenbook series as well as the Dell XPS 13 laptops. The main issue with the Dell XPS 13 seems to be the keyboard is very small and flimsy for a laptop of its size.
Does anyone here have any suggestions? I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts
