Windows Virtual Machine Setup
I have helped a lot of people set up their Virtual Machine environment using Windows 10/11 Hyper-V (hypervisor) to run multiple VMs.
Reasons:
1. Split a powerful PC to allow multiple users play independently at the same time.
2. Multi-box PC games, and control all VMs/games from a single PC
3. Isolate entire OS environments so that a crash does not impact everything else
4. Just to be cool
Challenges:1. Installing an entire Windows OS can be time consuming and annoying (Out of Box Experience or OOBE)
2. Windows 11 by default tries to force you to use an online account
3. GPU passthrough (required for 3d or demanding games) requires some knowledge of powershell, and the ability to move data from host pc to the vm
4. Time
Why am I posting this? I am currently developing a neat little program what will automate and address all the issues. I have it currently working on my environment, but I cannot validate it in every hardware.
If you are interested in setting up a Hyper-V environment to run VMs, especially to play games with GPU passthrough, let me know and I would love to help!
My current setup: Host PC - Windows 11, Ultra 9 285K cpu, 96GB memory, RTX 5080
Would love to see: AMD Ryzen cpu and/or AMD Graphics card setups for Host PC's, Laptops (Intel/AMD) with discreet GPUs
Even if you also have the same setup, and need help with setting up virtual machines, happy to help!
