I have 2 monitors, Monitor 1 has HDMI/DVI/VGA, Monitor 2 has no HDMI just DVI/VGA.
I'm using a gtx 1050ti which has only one of each HDMI/DP/DVI port.

My first monitor I'm just using a HDMI cable, I'm wondering if I should just get a DVI cable to connect the second or its better to get a DP to DVI cable.
Or is there some way I could connect the second monitor to the VGA port on my motherboard?

Just use a standard DVI cable. Plugging your second monitor into your motherboard would mean it won't utilize your graphics card, so that's usually only done if you're having issues with it.
