So I set up an ftp server on a computer at home using windows. I was able to connect while at home from my laptop, obviously same network no issues. I’m at work and cannot connect. Hard to find much info on google or YouTube to help me out.

Anyone know a fix for this

Just Curious, have you thought about using team viewer?
Has FTP + Remote Control.

also maybe you need to setup a port forward? 80 or 8080 , or could do 1234 or 5555 ect
80 and 8080 is pretty commonly open by default.

you could try visiting your IP address:80 or 8080
An example would be

I’m not against using a different option. Does team viewer have a file size limit?

I have done the port forwarding already but didn’t help

rdp (remote desktop protocol) uses port 3389 TDP so you need to forward that. remote pc also must have a password for this to work. then you connect with your external ip, if you wanted to do that.

ftp check your ports on your specific client. if windows i think it's port 20 and 21 tdp/udp, and you may have to add firewall rules to allow incoming/outgoing traffic in external networks if it is a 3rd party client

if it's full on web hosting then cone is right it is port 443 or 80, make sure you have your "server" set to a static IP, and make sure that windows firewall allows whatever program you're using to host it i.e apache
-> you may have to use protocol i.e https://yoursitehere.com vs. yoursitehere.com

Firewall is disabled on the media server computer. Ports 20-21 have port forwarding. The IP for the media server has a static address. I still can’t connect away from the network and I don’t know why. I could make another attempt at setting up the ftp server on the host machine, but I followed instructions completely

it has a 4GB size limit, unless you get a subscription.
