Out of nowhere, when I tab from d2r to microsoft edge or any other internet explorer, my screen goes black for a few seconds when I move the mouse.
If i'm tabbed on the game, everything is fine but i cannot t ab to explorer. If i tab to battle.net, I'm fine. My laptop is new and i had no issue prior to this last hour.

tried rebooting...

Any idea?!

Next time before you alt + tab, Try doing Alt + Enter :)
also are you using windows 11?? you might have accidentally Created a 2nd Desktop screen.
On your Taskbar at the bottom, if you Hover near the bottom left you should only see Desktop 1

Hey,

Yes, Windows 11. THere only seems to be 1 desktop unless I am missing something.

When it launches D2, it says Nvidia was not able to change display mode because of microsoftsecurityapp.exe

Again, this did not occur prior to yesterday and it only happens when tabbing to an internet navigator

If you still have this try updating your drivers and Windows. End of last month Microsoft and nvidia put out incompatible updates and it made everything run on my internal GPU instead of my external for my laptop.

Thank you. It did not work :/ Everything seems already up to date. its the feb-12th Windows update that seem to have created this issue for me.

Which customer support do you think I could adress this to? Microsoft ?

Well there are a couple more things to try.

Run CMD as admin, try running "sfc /scannow". If it finds errors, restart your pc and check for updates.

Next, in your display adapters screen, does it show one monitor or two (given it's only your laptop), for my laptop to fix this I had to select "Only display on monitor 1"

Hey,

thanks for the help. I did as you suggested and it said it repaired something. I rebooted, saw there was an update for microsoft defender, rebooted again... but still have the issue.

This is a new alienware laptop, it's pissing me off!!

I found a way to make it stop but i'm not sure if it's really the fix I want. Not sure of the impacts.

If I go in my Nvidia control panel and manually select the Graphic card instead of *Automatic selection* in the display setting pannel, I no longer have this issue. What impact does this have on my CPU / Graphic card?

The error is still occuring. it only happens when i open d2r. i can fix it quickly but it is annoying and idk what is the root cause. seems to be pointing at windows defender
