Tacomas are bullet proof if maintained. Same thing with F150s. Chevy in its later days are reliable. As much as I love dodge, I would avoid them.

Maybe things have changed, but the 86 and the 90 I had...had NO problems.

Anything on a rubber belt needs to be changed at 100k or in 7 years...

Chains are so much more superior

I assume the 86 and 90 Toyota pickups had rubber belts. However...they were fine to far past 140K on the 86 and at least 140K on the 90.

For other makes of vehicle, I have no idea. But on the Toyota bottom of the line 2WD pickups...the belt was never an issue. Like I said, maybe things have changed, but I doubt it, as far as Toyota pickups are concerned.

Here... Both trucks I owned had the older 22R engine. Here's what a few other owners have to say about that engine.

I owned these older cars, color different where noted. Then in 86 got my 1st Toyota PU, then got another in 1990. Haven't had any vehicle at all since 1996.

65 Ford Thunderbird
76 Chevy El Camino

75 Ford Gran Torino
74 Chevy Malibu
69 Ford Torino GT
63 Buick Wildcat

86 Toyota pickup (new)
