You want to run everything to the receiver then one output to the tv. That's the other reason you don't want that old ass receiver you mentioned earlier because it won't have hdmi capability. If you run the computer to the tv then an output to the receiver your sound may or may not have issues. It'll just depend on the tv and the receiver. If you want to play 4K stuff you need to buy a 4K receiver really. You will have a lot less headaches trying to trouble shoot and getting shit to work correctly if you just run everything straight into the receiver.

he can just plug everything to tv and run optical to the receiver, he can then just use one input on the receiver and different inputs on the tv
that yamaha would do it just fine

ok thanks yea. i ONLY use my desktop connected to my TV. and sometimes my ps4. So i really only have 2 different things i need to plug into my tv, which i dont think is alot. my ps4 does not run in 4k. But i sometimes use 4k content from my desktop to display on my TV.

As far as the yamaha, i think i am going to walmart right now to pickup the Sony STR-DH550 5.2. This is on clearance for $99. i somewhat prefer a new item and this seems a bit newer than the yamaha and is definitely newer than the other old ass sony receiver. this Sony STR-DH550 5.2 is the one that has issues and is not hdcp 2.2 compliant. so ill try to connect everything to my tv and run optical to the receiver like you said?

Thanks again!

Should i go with 10 or 12 inch dayton subwoofer!!!?? Thanks!

I dont need it to be super loud, because i have roomates that are close to me and my room is not that large.

I am about to order the bundle package for the dayton speakers that were suggested! but i know the bundle comes with 2 of the cheaper speakers for the rears, which i think is fine. but the bundle does make it much cheaper than buying each separate. i think i save around $15 if i get the 10inch sub bundle. and i actually would spend $1 more if i buy the 12 inch sub bundle, instead of buying each part separate.

12 inch bundle is : https://www.parts-express.com/b652-air-51-home-theater-surround-sound-speaker-system-with-12-subwoofer--300-697

10 inch bundle is : https://www.parts-express.com/b652-air-51-home-theater-surround-sound-speaker-system-with-10-subwoofer--300-691

thanks yea i got the receiver from walmart. sadly its only a fking 15 day return period.... so i need to order speakers fast so i can test that everything works....

but yeah the 4k pass through return audio thing has issues with it when hooking it up through a pc to the receiver and then the TV. this receiver was released in 2014 i think and theres no firmware update coming.... sadly

Heres a thread with the issue : https://community.sony.com/t5/Home-Theater-Products/On-STR-DH550-can-I-disable-OSD-on-volume-change/td-p/518372

So should i get the same speakers and everything, but i am torn between the 10 inch subwoofer or the 12 inch lol.... i dont need super loud bass. but i would like accurate bass and nice bass. ive heard the 10 inch doesnt go below 30 hz and that most music and movies dont really go much below 30 hz. also heard that the 10 inch should be a bit more accurate?

For an extra dollar why not get the 12? You can always turn it down.

the extra dollar is compared to buying each part separate instead of buying the bundle. basically i save a bit more when buying the bundle with the 10 inch sub. but i pay an extra dollar for the bundle with the 12 inch sub instead of buying each part separate from the bundle.

but the 12 inch subwoofer bundle cost 245.80
and the 10 inch subwoofer bundle cost 215.80

so the difference is actually 30 bucks. but i am just wondering if a 12 inch subwoofer is really that much better than the 10 inch for a small room?

Sony receivers are shit. Yamaha is much better, even at a similar price point.
