Honestly you won't notice the difference between a high-quality encode and a raw rip of a blu-ray, especially when each raw rip will take 25-50GB each. As far as HTPCs are concerned, I got out of the dedicated HTPC game long ago. If you have more than one TV, I highly recommend using client machines like Roku/AppleTV/Fire TV/etc with a good, dedicated storage and streaming server. I currently use Plex Server with the Roku front ends for Plex. It works great.

just the living room TV, and when we get a house i doubt we will get more TV's. got the desktop for the other stuff, living room TV is for family time hehe.

Hence the "sorry about the shitty lighting conditions". The natural lighting in my place sucks and my camera's phone isn't great in bad lighting. I also took both of them one-handed, so it's a bit shaky.
