But this is even MORE important...

A friend just gave me a copy of: Acronis True Image Home 2012 Boot CD ( he has a three comp license...and only two comps)

Anyways...this has got to be the best backup/restore software I've ever seen...no muss, no fuss, no install needed...it'll do FULL Image backups and restores...and backups and restores of how ever many files, folder etc., you choose.

I've been a faithful user or Norton Ghost 2003 for years, and I loved it. Simple interface, fast backup and restores etc. The Acronis True Image Home 2012 Boot CD, is 10 times better...and way faster. Works on all Windows, Linux, Unix and can back up and restore to anything..aka DVD's USB drives, flash or otherwise, External HDD's SC cards...anything. It'll clone HDD's or HDD to SSD or SSD to SSD etc.

For the near future I'll still keep Norton Ghost installed, but if I don't come across any issues that Acronis True Image Home 2012 Boot CD, can't solve...Ghost is going out the window.
[/QUOTE]

/edit I've already tested the Acronis True Image Home 2012 Boot CD, four times today...and it works flawlessly and like I said is wicked fast ^^

/edit 2 I still have one more test to do....and that involves, purposely downloading a virus or a trojan and then doing a restore to see if it gets rid of the malware...I'll do that tomorrow ^^

...and so you can make proper use of the Acronis True Image Home 2012 Boot CD

[SSD / storage HDD combo]

Remove the storage HDD from computer for the moment.

Put SSD in another comp, and use: Computer management > Disk Management to create a 100GB partition, and then create a 2nd partition with the remianing space, and format it. (size of 2nd partition does not matter, but NEEDS to use all remaining space on SSD) ...doing this will prevent Win 7 from creating the useless, unmoveable "reserve partition". Make both partitions: Primary, NTFS and Default Cluster Size.

Install stuff in this order:

Unhook Internet
Install Windows (on SSD)
Install motherboard drivers (on SSD)
Install vid card drivers (on SSD)
Install sound drivers (on SSD)

Rehook Internet
Install Windows updates (on SSD)
Install Security programs (on SSD)
Install utilities like CCleaner, 7Zip, IMGBurn (on SSD)
Install w/e other games or programs you want. They can be installed on the SSD or the HDD. The ones that need speed (SSD)

Now put the storage HDD back into the computer and use Computer management > Disk Management to partition your storage HDD like so:
150GB (Backups of all installed programs) / 150Gb for OS Image backups, and w/e is left over, for everything else, like media etc. Make all three partitions Primary, NTFS and Default Cluster Size.

Answers to questions you may have:

1. The reason we install all the drivers with NO internet connection, is that Windows will (in the background) start downloading Windows updates...and some of them wiill be GENERIIC drivers...that will fook up your real drivers.

2. The reason we DON'T want the Win 7 System Reserve Partition on the SSD is that it is hidden and UNMOVABLE..and this will fook up backup software.

3. The reason we unhook the internet during the Win 7 install is, that with today's always on connections...your brand new Win 7 install can get infected before Windows even gets it's OWN firewall set up ^^
