Was flying my cheap china drone and it lost connection to the transmitter. Ended up doing exactly the opposite of what normal flight controllers do and decided to keep using the last received inputs sent to it. This happened to be 100% throttle and roll/yaw/rotate to the right as I was trying to make it take a tight turn to send it back towards me in the field. It ended up spiraling above someones deck and crashing in their front yard.

Upon retrieval I was greeted by a couple who started going on about privacy and shit, even though the camera attached to it was not functional. After they were done going on about how they were going to call the cops I explained the situation and what, when, why, how it happened, but that didn't quell their thirst for drama.

It felt as if I was talking to Ghot and Ninjasushi in real life.

The husband/boyfriend even went as far to say he owns and operates drones, although he could not tell me a single thing about them. Flight controller, motors, esc, rx/tx modules, etc. Hell as I was explaining how my drone worked he seemed dazed and confused.

They then started to interrogate me about the laws and my drone, the husband/boyfriend even taking the drone from me (I willingly handed it over) so he could inspect the camera for a SD card even though I told him the camera was transmit only. (He didn't believe me until he couldn't find a SD card).

Meanwhile the wife/girlfriend was saying how she felt violated having the drone fly above her house and that I was trying to spy on her. Apparently the words "lost control" and "non responsive" didn't mean anything to her.

Afterwards they go on about how I don't know the laws about drones, until I started reciting them for them along with the transport governments website so they can look them up themselves. It turns out they didn't know there are no laws and only a handful of regulations, the rest of it being guidelines to attempt to follow for safe flying.

The regulations being about weight class and permits, and guidelines for avoiding houses/crowds, flying in an open space, flying no more than 300 feet high, etc. I should start carrying around the governments flow chart of all the current guidelines so I can hand them out to these drone nazis.

All in all even if they did phone the police I would probably just get a warning and let go since I didn't break any laws, only a guideline or two because of the unresponsiveness of the drone.

People are stupid.
