I pretty much refuse to try the razor method :/

razer method makes no sense
why would you ever do shit like that

rather take a hammer to my chip in a vice

but the rockit thing worked good for me

I destroyed my 3770k with one slip of the razor method.

Was reading about many delids, the other day.

Some delidded and just adapted the CPU heatsink to rest right on the CPU.
Others, delidded, and then used liquid metal TC and re-attached the IHS.

In both cases, they reported between 15-20C temp drops.

/e I guess a lot depends on how badly the polymer TC was originally applied.

/ee Btw, that Rocket delidding tool looks awesome.

The replacement of the paste actually only counts for like 5-10c at most. Typically like 2-5c.

It's removing the glue from under the IHS & Lowering the gap between the IHS and the cpu die by .06" that lowers the temps the most.

That's what I'm talking about...the TC tween the IHS and the actual delidded CPU.

/e Lot of delidders, used the liquid metal TC tween the CPU and the IHS. In other words they re-attached the IHS with better TC under it.

Apparently, after delidding, they found crappy polymer TC under the IHS. After cleaning that off and then using that liquid metal stuff, they got tween 15-20C better temps, even with the IHS re-attached.

/ee Only reason I looked it up is someone posted about seeing different core temps on a 4790K.

You still re-use the IHS, You just don't re-glue it.
