i wouldnt trust this device at all. it probably wouldnt be hard to hijack the passwords once the device is mounted and if you had it locally you can most likely just pop the flash chip out of the "secure" case and plug it in anyways.
the thing erases itself if you try to access the AES256 encrypted data too many times.

I would easily say yes, 45 char password is absolutely needed, and I would advise anybody that has the ability to, to use a password as secure as possible.
