It's probably best to save up around $600-700 then ask someone like ice to give you a build for that budget.
There's far too many choices to make, so fucking up your build is easy if you have no idea what to look at. Not to mention good deals come and go on a daily basis.

1k without monitor
will give u a puter that can
pretty much run every game(except crysis)
maxed out

600-800 will give you a rig that will PLAY
every game out just not with super high details

500-600 will give u a dual core/low quad that will play
casual games like cod or l4d wow but nothing major
