I can listen to my Q701 on my S3 without my FiiO E17. :D Only 62 Ohms at 105 dB SPL/V and they get loud. Pretty impressive for a phone consider these are "so hard to drive".

I had the K702s, they were a bitch to drive, despite being 62 ohm. Felt more like 600ohm -_-

Manufacture specified contrast ratios are full of shit. For instance, my old Samsung 23" monitor had 5,000,000:1 "dynamic contrast" on the label, but in reality it had an abysmal 600:1 contrast ratio. While a Panasonic plasma might say it has 1 million contrast ratio and actually have 22,500:1 and so on.

Since its a cheap chinese brand it probably has 300-1000:1 contrast ratio, which is not uncommon among budget LCDs.

Damn this sticky was a good idea and sure is useful!

Wondering about the "M-Audio BX5a powered speakers". I found them used for 100 bucks from a good source. Head-Fi. Yeah or no?

Absolutely, great speakers. They are studio monitors so they might be a bit flat / analytic for most peoples taste, but some people enjoy that.

Can anyone shoot me some pairs of $40-60 headphones with a mic to use for moderate gaming as well as music as well as drowning out my roomates obnoxious chewing/ snoring/ breathing?

If you want to drown out your roomates noises then closed-back is the way to go but it will sacrifice sound-stage which is one of the important factors in gaming (pin-point localization), but I've never been competitive enough to really bother about that, I love my D5000s for gaming :3

You could compromise and go for semi-open a la Superlux HD668b:

Managed to break my Denon D5000 headphones :( carried it back and forth to the military and home by suitcase which took its tool on them... Should have invested in an expensive travelling case that the ultra-end headphones a la Audeze LCD-3/x, Ultrasone Edition 10, STAX etc come packed with...

Luckily it is quite common for the hinge holding the cups to headband to fall off due to a screw falling out so local hi-fi store said they'll fix it.

Been using a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre the past 2 weeks and its been an awful experience. So damn uncomfortable it hurts my ears wearing them for more than 30 mins. Sound is very mediocre. If you're wondering why I've been using Beats, I won them in a competition and havn't got round to seling them yet

I miss the luxuriously soft leather pads of my Denons 3:

Much as I love my Denons I might try to sell them (for a profit,I bought them at a ridiculously low price of $400; retail = $1000 here) and try something new as I'm not going to have enough spare cash to get an expensive amp a la Burson 160-D any time soon (5 years studying coming up!)

And I am a basshead audiophile so I've narrowed it down to two options; Beyerdynamic DT770 and Ultrasone Pro 900. Never heard Ultrasone's before but some say it is the king of mid-bass (80-120hz "night club shaking bass") so that's sounds perfect for my dubstep/hip-hop/R&B/pop like music taste.

If I buy the beyers it will be close to retail price but found Ultrasone PRO 900s for $350 (retail price = $700-800 here) so could make a bargain again

hmmm
