A volunteer firefighter is a person, who risks his life for no pay.

BUT, it does look good on a resume, and there are women who like men in a uniform.


/e In our town, about 3-4 ex firefighters, DO get paid, but the rest are just a large group of folks that do it for free.

I think a lot depends on how big the town is too.

Every volunteer firefighter I've know in Ohio gets paid. It's a small amount but it's a little money

It depends on the state. For instance, Pennsylvania has more volunteer firefighters vs paid firefighters. In KC, volunteers get paid $10 per call. You're generally cut if you fail to attend a certain number of trainings or calls for service. However, volunteer firefighters are still treated like paid firefighters for certain things. The Glock Blue Label program, for instance.

And all of them in New Jersey, Colorado, Oregon, Texas get paid as well.
