Actually, at least for me the Verizon DNS servers seem faster, not by much, but it is noticeable.

You must be in metro PA. Here in the sticks their service is horrible.

ping 8.8.4.4


4.2.2.2 isn't supposed to be publicly used, it's for updating their other servers

check with whatever DNS you're on now..

I know how to do it, but it isn't necessary, I can tell it's faster, just from going to a few sites. Ofc, doing a search on Google for example is faster on the Google DNS servers, but not by that much.

There's no way to find out which Verizon DNS server I'm on though. They have like a bunch of them.

Check your router. Verizon uses proprietary software on their routers. So it's easy to see which one you're on.

Those sites you already use are cached, that doesn't query a DNS server at all

I don't use a router bro.

The default Win 7 Adapter setting is: "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

I assume this is so, if one of Verizon's DNS servers goes down or needs updated, it will switch to another one.

As for the ping...Verizon's is definitely faster to GET to, probably because it's closer and less used ?

No, that's verizons tier 1 DNS, google, most of the world updates from it.(as I already said) But they're not supposed to.. only big servers like google are supposed to.

4.2.2.2 is fastest dns updates in seconds usually. I use it cuz idc they never banned me yet.

That is not the one you're using, however. You're using one of their probably like tier 5 ones that is meant for their crappy ISP & only updates every x hours
