780 ti is what, ~14% faster than the 780, stock speeds. I'd say sure, if you get a good OC on your 780.

I've got sli 780s on par with sli 780tis. I'd say it's doable.

The 970 can overclock further, so it's worth it for most people, personally I barely notice a difference.
