The RAM is showing 8GB in dual channel in Speccy. Where are you seeing 2.2GB?

We would need to know how many sticks of RAM he has, and who made them.

/e It sounds like a bad mismatch of some cheap encono RAM.

Not always an indicator of how many sticks he has. I had 4x 2gb sticks that showed up dual channel 8gb back in the day

He needs to try installing the 64 bit Windows again....just make sure he resets the BIOS to defaults....first.

/e Sounds like a bad BIOS setting, to me.

If after setting the BIOS to defaults, it still won't install the 64 bit copy of Windows, then he has a bad copy of Windows.

Sometimkes motherboard manufacturer's mess around with a motherboard's BIOS settings (for w/e reason) before they sell it.
I've seen this happen many times. Depending on w/e BIOS setting they mess with...it can cause all kinds of weird problems.

/e Btw, this is what it says in his motherboard manual...

I don't know what version of 64 bit Windows he tried. But it shows that there is a setting in the BIOS, that could be causing the problem.
