The only reason a 7700k can out-perform a 1700 or even really a 1600 in gaming is solely because of its ability to overclock to ~5GHz. Hard to say overclocking doesn't matter when it's the only reason Intel is even worth buying in 2017.

have you looked at stock vs oc 7700k reviews?

i kind of am because i dont pretend to be a top tier competitive player who is hitting a wall because of sub 200 fps

You don't have to be competitive player to enjoy something better. Paying for things like 6700K and not having stable 300fps is like paying for a great blowjob and only receiving a mediocre one. It makes me sad

But then I overcocked and my life became awesome, I became rich and got bitches/lost virginity.

eh to me it's more like buying the fanciest most tricked out pens possible for pen spinning so that you can do fundamental tricks that work just as well with a sharpened pencil; it's not gonna make you play better.

kind of a faulty comparison tho unless csgo is your most intensive application

Not sure where you keep pulling the whole 'play better' thing, I didn't mention it but you keep bringing it up. I am talking about enjoying the experience, out of the whole skill aspect.

If you're trying to call me a shit player, feel free to. I'm by no means t3 and most likely not even t4 player in CS:GO, nor have I ever been. I am highly intrigued by the technical details of the game and optimizing the gaming experience, though.

As for CS:GO being the most intensive application, I already called my needs simple. I play other, more intensive games in addition, but even CS:GO + the other things are enough to saturate my CPU's throughput every now and then. I would expect enthusiasts to meet that scenario more frequently.

Intriguing is one word for it, I personally find it frustrating how the input in csgo is tied to frame render time, I encountered that in a rhythm game and needed like 1000 fps to make sure my hits were recorded as accurately as they could be. It's terrible design.

Why should the game wait for the nearest frame to your mouse movement or click to be rendered to register that something happened? Graphics should just be the output, not a thing that determines game logic.

I wonder how many pro csgo matches would have gone differently if logic were based off of cpu cycles instead, having shots and aim adjustments measured to within the cpu's 0.2-0.5 nanoseconds of precision (varies by clock speed) rather than entire milliseconds. The difference here is similar to the difference between a second and a year.
