also, alot of cases have obstructive air flow. if you have clear paths for air, temps become much better.

Actually, not that much.

Obviously mesh > solid blockage, but most of the time things like cable management does very little to temps in a regular ATX build.

Edit:
And when I say 'not that much', I mean literal one degree or so between the worst cable management and bigdick custom cables all neatly tucked in.

As usual c: is the correct answer. :)

c: I live in New Mexico and it's normally hot here, so I need to keep my house a bit cooler.

You can run skylake for 10 years at 70c and probably have little to no problems

Once you get to is say 85-95 is when I'd start to get really worried

OP is also not running the CPU heatsink fan at 100%, which probably has just a little to do with the temps. :)

@OP... in a hot part of the country, you need to run the CPU fan at 100%, or switch to water cooling. Just disable the ASUS Q-Fan control in the BIOS, this will allow the CPU fan to run at 100%. If that's too noisy, then you may want to consider an AIO water cooling solution. Which at worst will cut about 5-10C off your CPU temps at load.

/e His SSD temp is 33C which is about 91F...and is also probably close to his ambient room temp...give or take a few degrees.

Like my hottest HDD is 22C or 70F which IS just about my room temp.

Wipe old paste and re apply new good quality paste. Make sure to have enough this time. If it doesn't work, maybe your CPU rad isn't working right. What kind of computer case? Enough air flow?

i was referring to the case it's self. especially done of these silent cases, the direct airflow is pretty restrictive.

If you're going to spend 85 dollars on an air cooler atleast get something that looks good.. the DH15 or w/e it is... UGLY as sin.

You're really asking the guy with a 5000 pc build.. not exactly going to agree with air cooling

well that's your preference which is cool and all, but air is still highly viable.

30 to 40C on SSD/HDD is OK. I was just saying, it's usually an indicator of ambient room temp.

/e And I see in your profile: Yuma, AZ ...so it seems to be working. :)

Most of the proper, silent cases (such as the Define R-series) will have very good airflow while managing to be silent. Now were talking about <5 degrees of difference from a mesh case to a silent one.
