Well see here's the deal....1908 efficiency apt., no insulation, and a ton of leaky sash windows...so I made do the best I could. Oh, and lest we forget, I live in PA, so we get Stink Bugs (Google if necessary).
So...once I put the much vented A/C unit in window, I have to keep either A/C or at least the A/C fan running...till the next fall/winter, when I remove it. If not....I will be INVADED by Stink Bugs, which at present have no natural enemies in the USA, and they really DO stick if you crush one by accident...severely. In winter, I do the same...keep the A/C window open about 4-5 inches, and use that for my cold-air...problem is...those tweener times....like spring and fall, when MOST of the times..the outside temps are fine, but then that occasional string of 2-3 ....70-80F days comes along and it's too early for A/C and too warm for open window cooling.
So, from late March-April to early September-November...I run the A/C. This is my apt. layout....w/o a severe remodel, this is best I've come up with so far....well, w/o requiring an Arctic Parka. When A/C is IN and running the kitchen exhaust fans are on low setting...in Winter..they on high setting. It's sorta like my whole apt., acts like a comp case as well.
