If I could build a station to split 1 HDMI port on my laptop over multiple monitors I'd ditch my desktop.

Plug in all my peripherals (keyboard, mouse, speakers) into a USB hub, and then have some kind of HDMI hub for multiple monitor support and I'd sell my desktop in a heart beat. Would give me the desktop workspace at home, and the mobility of a laptop by just unhooking the hubs.

I am not looking for splitting one signal into multiple identical signals. I need to obtain multiple signals from a single output.

Well, you'd have to have 4 signals. You could multiplex them to run through one HDMI cable, but it would be just as easy to have 4 HDMI cables.

The only way to get multiple signals from one laptop, would be to rebuild it with 4 GPUs.

Well that's not going to happen. Although I wonder if there is such a thing as a USB3 to HDMI GPU or something. I wouldn't mind giving up 2 of my 3.0 ports to have extended HDMI sources.

Yes, there is such a thing. But it still gives identical images...coz still, only one source. The USB end goes into the comp...the other end goes to the monitor.

https://www.amazon.ca/MyGica-UShow-Display-Adaptor-Conver/dp/B004AFZFF6 <---- Doesn't seem to last too long, either.

You still can only get one image out of one source. You can get multiple "identical" images out of one source, but for each "different" image, you need a "different" source. :(

/ee Remember this topic? http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=74927141&f=188

Well it turns out he had 4 monitors and his vid card had 2x DVI, 1x HDMI, and 1x DP

3 of his monitors were DVI and one was HDMI...so he used that unholy thing from Amazon, and powered his 4th monitor from a USB port.....the unholy thing burnt out..that's why he lost his 4th monitor.
I told him to get rid of that thing and get a DP to DVI adapter...he did...all 4 monitors work.

That amazon link is basically what I need.

Now I wonder if there is a USB3.0 model that allows for higher bandwidth. Apparently the device you linked has troubles with refresh rates for videos and moving images likely due to either insufficient bandwidth for 1080p output, or being rendered on the CPU rather than the GPU because of how the drivers were designed.
