For a $1000 budget, get a receiver and a surround speaker setup.

Receiver: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117411
Speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882325105

Then run optical or digital coax out of your computer to the receiver.

Umm, no. DefTech makes really good speakers for that price range, and while Pioneer doesn't make the best receivers on the market, they're pretty decent, and the 1122 at that price is a good deal.

Really curious as to why you think that sucks.

Yeah... Never buy a speaker package. Always piece together an audio setup from scratch.

Got the Fluance SX6, Dayton sub-1000, Dayton 30w amp, and the Asus Xonar DG sound card. They sound beautiful.

Is my left speaker bad or am I just hard of hearing in my left ear? It's hard to tell.

Um can't really answer that..

Edit. Though my speakers sound that way sometimes too. Like everything is louder on one speaker. Turn all the pc volume down and crank up the speakers. Should solve the problem.
