There are support gems, I.e one that gives you x% life leach or etc. They only work in tandem with a skill, So if you put double strike & Life Leach in sockets that are linked, Your double strike now has life leach

Sockets are for skill gems. Linked sockets interact with each other.

Example:
G-G-R-R

Dual strike (active skill) - Faster attacks (support gem) - Melee physical damage (support gem) - Added fire damage (support gem)


The Faster Attacks, AFD, and MPD will add damage, attack speed, etc to your Dual Strike skill.

U generally want a 6link armor/some weaps and 4 link everything else. So u get the most out of ur skills

if i have two gems of same skill in diff items, or even same item, does it stack?

this is totally weird. everything in d2 was so character specific.
