Well this just proves that you both need to watch the movie: The Cube. :)

It's pretty obvious to me that they got the idea for Portal from this old movie. :/

Actually they got the idea from an older game, Steam hired the dev team of narbacular, to make the game portal.

The movie: The Cube, came out in 1997. It was a giant cube filled with smaller cubes. Each internal cube had passages (doors) on all it's six faces.
A random group of folks were drop in the large cube...somewhere. They had to find their way out (without knowing this ahead of time). Some doors went to danger some didn't, but the kicker was that all the internal cubes, moved around..sort of like a rubik's cube, only much larger.

If you have ever watched the movie: The Cube, you would see what I'm talking about. Even the 2005 game you listed is based off this movie, although no one admits to that. :)

I can hardly believe Portal is based on that movie. And I've seen all three.

Was great movie, though.

Well Star Trek aired an episode with portals in 1967, Does that mean Cube stole their idea?

Not the same idea. I saw all the Star Treks (first runs), and saw them all again...many times. :)
It's kind of a hobby of mine...to see where ideas spring from and where they go on to. But it's just a hobby. In fact, if I took it further..I'd probably find (as others have) that most ideas today, come from much further back in history

There have been many "out of the box" thinkers, just since we started recording history. There's very few ideas these days, that weren't thought of before. It's just the way things are, it seems. :)

So, you have no proof of the game actually being based off of the movie?

Show me proof and I might believe it. Until then it is pure speculation.

You're the one who demands proof so put up or shut up. Plain and simple.

No proof then no viable argument. Everything else is redundant.
