the issue is even with a price match you need to find exact parts to match
you can't price match builds, nor do they have a selection worth price matching to.
he has a best buy card apparently even after saying he doesn't so kijiji is out of the question.
his best option has been stated but he doesn't want to listen.
Oh FFS.
This is a really stupid circle jerk. Yes, dollar for dollar you are better off building a PC but you act like everyone and their mother knows how to do it. I work in IT and the #1 thing that pisses me off is coworkers trash talking a non-computer person because they aren't an expert in what you are. I build my own PCs and I buy retired machines from where I work that are (GASP!) prebuilt! Want to know the difference between them? Nada to the common user.
Do OP a favor and help him out and stop acting like he's a fool. An i5, 8 GB, RX 580 build will be fine. Is it better than an RTX build? No. Is it better than having a Samsung SSD vs. a Lite-On SSD? No. But at the end of the day it's better than a Craigslist computer that was assembled by Johnny Appleseed that thought a $20 PSU was great idea and thinks QVL lists are an offshoot of QVC.
Imo, I would buy a "standard" prebuilt PC, throw a good quality PSU in, buy an OEM Nvidia GPU, and call it good. It will work within 5-10% of a custom PC with the same specs even with "trash" vendor hardware.
