Lol many companies have software that needs to be removed also
Just not drivers

Not to mention shit load of other bloat

Some example? Bloat is irrelevant in my case but if something non-driver installed when I was setting up my drivers without my knowledge I should know.

The only non-driver thing I can think of that I installed which was hardware specific is amd overdrive

Clean install is better. It only takes a couple hours for everything, and then you KNOW it's not a software problem.

/e The best solution is good stand alone (not incremental or partial) full OS image backup. As long as you know the last backup was clean and error free, then you can fiddle with anything, with no worries. If it goes tits-up, restore from a backup.

the latter falls under the stuff I uninstall beforehand in device manager, but what about extra software? I opt out of everything and I don't use the disc

I dont think I installed any mobo drivers on my AMD system, actually. Wasn't necessary. Windows stock audio/sata controllers/usb etc did the job. You don't need to install chipset drivers at all if your device manager is absent yellow triangles after everything else

im just not sure how a new psu could cause a usb driver related problem unless the psu has an abysmal 5v rail.

OP have you tried ps/2 kb/mouse?
