Looks like a lot of people had issues reaching the max rated RAM speeds on that mobo... But that's part of the early adoption tax i mentioned :)
Assuming you can get it up to the rated 2666 (still slow, and it doesn't get any faster for the enthusiast boards, gg mobo vendors) it should be worth it, worst case scenario the free motherboard you got isn't as good as it could have been. Boo hoo.

the 3930k is significantly slower, lol
We're talking better smt implementation, more cores/threads, even slightly more single thread performance. Not to mention more efficiency.

the x has slightly higher binning though the non-x is already going to be starved for bandwidth as is so it's questionable how much that's going to matter... I think the point is he won't get the free mobo unless he springs for the 1700x.
