Yeah I found it. See my last question:

E: Nvm. Found it. So what... you take the lid off, replace the thermal compound, and then glue the lid back on? Or do you just remove the lid and put thempaste directly on the PCB (or whatever you call it) then mount the cooler?

You can do either, Going without the lid is dangerous though, And doesnt offer much more temp improvement.

People use Liquid Ultra for the best temps, between the die & lid.

You don't need to glue it down, Just put the liquid ultra on... Put the lid loosely over the chip & Close down the socket retention bracket. It will hold it solid, As long as you have no need to remove the CPU.

The relid kit is only if you want to glue it back on, And you can do that without a tool anyways.

Its better to just put it in the socket & clamp it down without any glue though.

Run the risk of breaking the die with too much pressure.

Even people that run it 'bare' end up being a specialized bracket that helps spread the pressure of the heatsink

So the guy before me didn't degrease the lid of the 6700k. I cleaned it with some isopropyl alcohol and temps during cinebench were in the 60s.

RealBench hit 70.

You always should clean it with isopropyl before putting paste on it.

Even if i know the chip is new/clean.. I still give it a wipe down :P

Yeah. My temps will still be highish when benching. I'm wondering if I should switch my cooler to a Cryorig M9i...

No why would you do that?
Its literally the horrible thermal paste between the die and the IHS which limits you.
people been getting 10-20c lower temperatures on skylake

Its 7700k but the same procedure.
