Just thinking out loud here.. I've seen a LOT of these threads, and there are countless dx racer haters as well as people who love them. Chair comfort is completely subjective to each individual user (unless people jump on the lover/hater bandwagon). Everybody will like something different for their own comfort level. I prefer a chair with NO extra lumbar support, wooden arm rests, generous recline, and a short/mid height back that doesn't go up past my shoulder blades. My current chair is probably from the 1960s that no one else wanted in my office. I've never sat in a more comfortable chair. Will it be comfortable for everyone? NO. It doesn't matter how a chair is labeled (office, ergonomic, gaming, etc..) as long as it is comfortable for YOU. There are countless aftermarket pads available for chairs that you just need to find out which type of general structure that you like in a chair.

If you buy a well-built chair, it will last you for years. As long as the structure of the chair is still good, just buy new pads or take it to an upholsterer when the padding wears out. I don't care what chair you buy, you I'll eventually wear the padding enough that it won't offer the support as it once did.

i've sat in a dx racer chair and can say that while it was comfortable to sit on, the siderests are really just in the way and are no good. Perhaps saving a couple hundred and get a nice office chair that you like, it'll probably be black but that's alright.

On the flipside, while the armrests may not be very nice, they do go very low and allow you to have your chair at max height and still slide under your table. Very awesome, and for me, that's a bigger plus than having sick, big, padded armrests

And I would suggest saving for the Embody as it's the most comfortable chair I've personally ever owned.

However, the Aeron I believe is in budget, or very near to. I would suggest that one as well.

I could never drop $1100 on a chair no matter how comfy it is. That's just stupid. Up to $500 I can see but anything after is just like why....

Because it's extremely comfortable for HIM. Why would you pay $500 for a chair? That's just stupid. You can go to an office supply place and get a decent chair for $150 or less. :bonk:
