Only xfire if you need to... you'd be better off getting 1 very gg card than 2 good cards... sli and xfire have issues and sometimes screw up.. they take more energy and produce more heat too. Not to mention not all games support xfire/sli. You'd be better off with 1 very gg card on either side. Just remember (i think this is true) if you use nvidia you have to have basically the same exact monitors to create a surround display
I have been sli/xfiring for 4 yrs now, 99% of the issues have been done away with, 1 card>2 cards in power usage and easier, but 2 cards price to performance ratio is >
sli is more reliable then xfire, both scale about the same with it leaning toward amd as the leader, both have 3rd party software to help with games with no profiles but nvidia has more original, never had an issue on either on screwing up besides a driver not sticking(3 installs over each other usually took care of it)
edit: I am a nvidia surround user atm with 2 accessory displays
