http://corecodec.com/1. Uninstall all codec packs, previous installations of the aforementioned, and the like.
2. Reboot.
3. Install MPC-HC with default options. Do not keep any previous settings.
4. Install Haali Media Splitter with all options checked except for the association of files with Windows Media Player.
5. Install CoreAVC without the included Haali Media Splitter.
6. Start MPC-HC, go to "View" -> "Options..." -> "Playback" -> "Output", select "EVR Sync" under "DirectShow Video", and select "Bicubic A=-0.60 (PS 2.0)" as "Resizer".
7. Go to "View" -> "Options..." -> "Subtitles", set "Maximum texture resolution" to "Desktop", check "Allow animation when buffering", and uncheck "Round up to power of two".
(Optional step: Set "Sub pictures to buffer" to "0". This will fix the issue of flashing subtitles when several lines with different start/stop times are displayed on the screen, but it will be a little harder on slow machines.)
8. Go to "View" -> "Options..." -> "Internal Filters", and uncheck the "H264/AVC (DXVA)" and "H264/AVC (FFmpeg)" transform filters. Save all changes and close MPC-HC.
Taking screenshots:
1. Open a video.
2. Go to "File" -> "Save Image...".
3. Save the image where you want your snapshots to go, and make sure to save in JPG format. PNG should be used for video quality comparisons, however.
Now you can press F5 whenever you want to take a screenshot and it will automatically save a JPG image in whatever folder you saved the first image in.
