Jesus Christ. $600 for CCW? I paid $40 for the class. I needed 50 rounds for my .40 glock 23 and they provided the 50 rounds of .22 for the revolver I had to qualify with. The fee for CCW for 5 years is $100. If California honors any other states CCW, I'd look into driving over if they allow non-residents.

I'm looking for an EDC knife since my ka-bar LE knife was stolen. Something light, with a strong blade that holds an edge and has quick release. Not so much worried about seat belt cutting or window breaking as I keep a heavy flashlight in my drivers side door and my glock either on me or in a holster between the center arm wrest and the seat.

i don't believe cali does, but i'll look into it. cali has always had EXTREMELY high fee's, and it was harder to actually get a CCW. you had to be like a shop owner, a jeweler, work in a bank, etc etc. that changed this year, now self defense reasoning and a passing psych evaluation is good enough.

i was looking at the spyderco tenacious some more, seems perfect for both of us. they kept the weight down cause of skeletonized handle, little hole in the blade, is fast and holds edge.

im actually looking for two knives. a light weight one i can wear when jogging, and one that can be hefty and larger for work and EDC ( i usually wear cargo shorts, bigger EDC knife is fine ).

all you people with guns and knifes, how often have u actually been in a situation where u needed to use it?

if u place yourself in these kinds of situations maybe something else is the issue?

I would say it's good to know how to handle a gun and to at least own a hand gun for personal defense if someone were to break into your house, but it's not a necessity to always carry it with you.

But then again, shooting is a lot of fun :P
I've done a lot of desert shooting in vegas, for some reason people really enjoy shooting binary targets.

What do you guys carry,.40 ,.45, 9mm?

Honestly the answer is going to be very low, if at all. But the better question is, What happens when you do & You don't have anything on you?

I plan on getting my concealed carry permit eventually here, But don't plan on walking through town with it 24/7. It will be used more for having it when i go on a road trip / out of town etc.

I usually have some sort of knife on me, Just because they're so damn handy if you have to open a package / Cut a peice of rope / stab some noobwhacker in the face, etc. I Just have a little dinky carabiner type knife atm. Anything else is too bulky for every day usage imo.

if the situation happens often, you should probably relocate yourself. the point in it all is to be PREPARED, because IF a situation comes up you want to go home and have dinner that night. i realize not everyone has their eyes opened as to the reality of how many people are unstable, dangerous, carry weapons for wrong doing, etc, but even those who have not realized this reality still would rather not take the chance and prepare themselfs. i live in a relatively safer, little more pricey city but am i going to completely let my guard down? No.

don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people obsessed with being tactical, take it a little too far, and almost defeat the purpouse to begin with. but, they should not ne judged and the people who just wanna be safe with some small EDC defense tools should DEFINITELY not be judged. it's a crazy world out there, just remember that.

The same issue could be raised for car insurance. How often do you need it? Does it justify having it?

Basically, yes. I live in an area with a large amount of firearms. I work in the domestic violence and have been assaulted by abusers of the victims I assist. One time was physical and I subdued him. The second time was in front of the court house and the deputies had him on the ground before he even made it within 10 feet of me. The third time was at my office and a co-worker was able to help me pin him to the ground. I carry my firearm on me because it's protection that I may not necessarily need, but gives my girlfriend and I peace of mind. Firearms are also a hobby of mine. Besides, a gun placed in the hands of a responsible citizen should do no harm and therefore should not be criticized or worried about. You will never see my firearm unless it's being pointed at you. I carry a knife because it acts as a secondary weapon if I lose access to my firearm. I also carry a knife because I regularly have need for a knife. I use a pocket knife anywhere from 1 to 10 times a day for cutting boxes, etc. It just makes sense to keep one on me.

Also, there has been an increasing level of violent offenses in the area that I live. Not to mention being so close to Kansas City. We had a riot on homecoming weekend seven years ago started by individuals that came down from KC to party. That night, law enforcement had an all call and were mostly centralized in our downtown area where the violence was taking place. A large number of robberies happened while law enforcement was occupied. If something like that were to happen again, I like to know that I have protection at my 4 o'clock to protect myself and those that I care about.

There is nothing wrong with anyone owning a firearm as long as they are responsible, understand how to care for and use the firearm, and understand its uses.

in your line of work, why not pepper spray or taser

so if u cannot subdue ur client or whoever you are helping with your own hands, then at least you wont have to pop a cap or two into them and increase damage and risk of killing them

also removes the risk if they happen to wrestle the gun out of your possession and use it against you
