Well for those of you that care, a quick update on what I have been doing. I said earlier I got a job offer from Walmart in a distribution center doing logistics. It is going very well. It's pretty labor intensive, especially coming from a desk job. I'm doing well in it and I'm losing weight which is a plus. Hopefully I'll lose this 30 pounds I have gained over the last year and a half by summer. I make good money for someone as young as I am with little contacts in the industry I want to work in. Starting wage is 16.40 with differentials and incentives I make just under 20 an hour. If I pull higher than 100 percent over a 2 week average, I get paid that percent extra per hour. This is max up to 130 percent. So if I pull 130 percent I get n extra 30 percent of my hourly wage per hour on my paycheck. This is great coming from making just under 12 an hour with. Job that required a degree.
For those of you that are able bodied, you should google Walmart distribution center jobs and see if there is one in your are. I drive an hour there and an hour back. The drive sucks and I got myself a 16 over ticket my sixth night there. My first ticket since I was 18. Anyway, I work with guys that are 60 years old and do this job. The job title is order picker. My back hurt so bad the last two nights that I had to walk like a hunchback from my car to my apartment. But I'm out of shape and I don't always use proper lifting technique. This job allows me to live like I did before I got it and I put everything extra I make over what I made at my old job in savings.
I work Tuesday through Friday, 2:30 until the job is done which is typically 11 to 1. If you need a job, it's worth. He king out. I do realize now that I was lucky with my benefits at my last job. 12 days of vacation, 8 hours sick time every month and paid holidays off. But it's Walmart, I shouldn't expect too much. My insurance is about 40 more a month with a slightly higher deductible but whatever.
My girlfriend works on my days off so I have no one to talk to lol. My friends are busy doing hoodlum things and I feel like an old man so I don't partake in bar nights or day drinking with them much anymore. My birthday is on Monday and I turn 24. I'll be done with my masters in safety in December so I've got that going for me. I feel like I've accomplished something which is nice. I'm on beer 11 of the 12 pack of blue moon I bought. I haven't drank in a while and I definitely needed it. I feel pretty relaxed now. Anyway, tl;dr
