Fun video from this irishman who im in love with :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jIDbZG1VxY

he actually breaks down some math and plows through the marketing with some realistic numbers. somewhere in the middle he shows that the 1080 is only 55% more efficient in terms of performance per watt (compared to 980). which is great, but a hell of a lot lower than anything nvidia will tell you ^_^

He explains that GDDR5X is currently available in limited quantity, so that explains the "Founders Edition" pricing, as the other cards will be available later.

Now that they can increase stacks to up to 16GB it's not as useless as you think. It provides a lower voltage for memory in a stacked configuration then what typical DDR memory requires. It actually allows the GPU to consume more wattage then previously to increase performance.

Eventually DDR memory will be a hindrance for GPUs to where they will hit the proverbial ceiling.

Yes will be needed but not for couple gens like usual
Ddr3
Lets compare the past gddr5 vs ddr3 cards
And now with gddr5x and finfet almost useless to say anything atm

DDR is 90's technology that they keep rehashing. There hasn't been a significant change in years. Even finfet is an older technology.
