We've seen a long slow trickle of information about AMD's Ryzen processors spill out over the last several months. AMD has fed us enough information to keep us listening, and combined with a mudslide of mostly-false leaks, it’s fair to say the excitement has reached a fever pitch. We are finally on the cusp of the official March 2 launch date, and as such, AMD held a Tech Day event in San Francisco to lay out the pricing, specifications and its own internally generated benchmarks for its three leading SKUs. The Ryzen 7 1800X ($499), 1700X ($399), and 1700 ($329) all pack 8 cores and 16 threads at an impressive price point.

Following months of nonstop leaks and speculation, AMD today has officially announced its Ryzen R7 lineup, base specifications, and pricing for 8C/16T products. AMD is expected to follow-up later with lower-end SKU launches – if the leaks are to be believed, that’d be R3 and R5 – leaving today’s focus entirely on the 8C/16T “R7” lineup. The three primary CPU SKUs announced are the R7 1700, R7 1700X, and R7 1800X (in order of price/performance), each of which we hope to test in short order.

Super stoked because this reduces prices by like 50% for productivity/content creator folks.

But where them gaming benches at.

Right now the 7700K reigns supreme, would love to see something beat it by at least 5%

if it costs less i wouldn't even care if it didn't even break even with the 7700k, it's a negligible "margin of error" difference that a strong gpu will make up for

Fair point, but breaking even wouldn't prompt people who already own a 6700k+ to run out and upgrade their rig right now though unless they really want zen.

A huge win for people looking to buy right now though.
