Most people (reviews, audiophile forums, etc.) consider the ones I got to be exactly on par with the Sennheiser HD 598 (the other I was considering at the $150ish price point), but with a better soundstage and more comfortable. I can't speak as to the soundstage since I only have Sennheiser 558, but they're more comfortable for sure.

Ok. Unrelated -- there's a kind of static background noise coming from my ModMic. It's not loud, but I wish it was clearer. I guess it's common. What would fix this?

Is it USB or 3.5?

If it is 3.5 it is likely a shielding/grounding issue. But an external usb soundcard off eBay for 99 cents.

People are already making jokes about how similar the new monoprice headphones look to lcd2 & etc.

If not, i got a buddy that can hooke me up with a new pair of rosewood lcd 2 for like 800 :)
