It's not the $10, it's the heat. M.2 SSDs are like toasters. This build is to outlast me.
I didn't go for the Viii Hero or the Pro, because those boards have too much crap on them. Plus they're only 6 layer PCB. The WS board is 8 layer, has heat sinks from god, The WS is built like a tank.

I'm going for the 2060 super, cause it's the same card as the 2070, but not clocked so high. I've no need for high clocks. The newest game I play in Microsoft Links 2003.
Like I said way up top... I'm going for longevity, not... pushing the edge. The 3700X has great Turbo speed... and from what I've been reading, they don't OC all that much anyways.

I also had a 9700K build in the running, but realized that even though it's a skosh faster in gaming... I don't really game anymore. Hell, there haven't even been any decent games (IMO) for like 18 years.

There are quite a few games that would have been ok with better controls. WASD is stoopid. I was raised on joysticks. IMO, XBox or PSx controllers bite. They're better than the keyboard, but they still bite.
Let me run my Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 Joystick, and I'll hold my own in any game. :D
D2 had great controls... left hand on 1-4 and L thumb on L alt key... right hand on mouse. Left hand would work the skills too.

Somewhere along the line we got off track, with messed up game controls and pay to play and micro transactions etc. We also got off track with comps. It all started with that tsunami in the Far East, about 10 years ago... that wiped out all the hard drive factories. HDD prices went through the roof. Once the industry saw that they could blame parts prices on just about any act of god, they started playing us.

I started the actual partpicking for this build on April 13th. I'm happy with the parts I got, and the parts I'll get in July. :D

/e Oh, and I know the SSD numbers. SSD 2.5" is about 4x faster than a good 7200rpm HDD. And the M.2 SSDs are about 7 times faster than the 2.5" ers.
Hell... an M.2 would be so fast I wouldn't be able to get into the BIOS.

well. i guess you are from the earlier generation, so you don't know.
pc building now is all about playing minecraft as optimal as possible

i just bought an evga 2070s hybrid earlier today while were speaking of them. (not for me)

you should debate at least getting gta5 though. then we can determine our conversations by hitting each other with bats

I'll pass. But Baldur's Gate 2 with the "killsword" is pretty damn awesome. ^^

Yeah... the WS mobo I ordered includes them. But it's still an unnecessary heat source IMO.
I mean I really have no need for an SSD that fast. A regular 2.5" will be fine for me.

cpu/gpu/ram/mobo etc all will prolly never break a sweat considering what you are doing along with the fact gpu is only thing that would be heating up the inside if you are overclocking to the extreme
pretty much all your components are cool running parts

there are some nvme/m2 drives that actually arent as hot as you think so maybe consider it?

i find it funny you using a mobo with shit load of features you prolly will never use but looks good

You don't have need for that ram nor cpu either but here we are.

Those M.2 SSDs are too fast for me. They probably boot so fast, I'd have trouble getting into the BIOS.

Just bought another Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. The TWO I already have, don't have the proper bracket and backplate for the AM4 socket. Other than that they are the same. So now I will have tons of spare parts.

Splash screen times are not effected by the boot device, kek.

Well, I had to buy a new Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, to get the socket AM$ bracket. I chose to get it from Amazon, cause it was the Cooler Master storefront. (CMI Tech)
That was the only way to be 100% sure that the Hyper 212 hadn't sat in a warehose long enough to be too old to have the AM4 bracket.

So here's the parts I ordered... https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HQp6jp
