Agree! Changing thermal paste on the 212 evo was a real hassle.

However the 212X appears to be smaller, but I want to make sure its not my PSU/motherboard thats broken before I order it, any ideas how to check that?

Don't know what this costs where you are, but it's a great cooler and a lot easier to install than the 212 EVO...

Can't I just buy a fan that fits the 212 evo and skip the entire heatsink?

Not sure how you would make it stick as this fan has these notches and the ones I look up online don't have them (for instance noctua fans)

Oh yeah. I didn't understand that you HAD a 212 EVO.

This is the fan that Cooler Master recommends for the 212 EVO. My 212 EVO uses two of these...

These fans have higher CFM and lower dBa than even the newer cooler master fans. Here's my 212 EVO with two of these fans on it...

new fan solved it, really low temps (28 degrees idle)

last fan was spinning @ 50 RPM when cpu was 80 degrees.

it's a 3 pin fan that i connected to the 4 pin slot (on the 3 marked ones) - which i read the last pin is only speedcontrol so it doesnt matter since i put fan @ 100% in bios ?

thanks everyone for the help

The speed control IS the 4th pin. But setting it to say... 50% in the BIOS will make it run at 50% all the time.

There is usually two different settings for the CPU fan in the BIOS. One is a strict percentage, the other is a fan curve, where the speed will change depending on temperature.
If I'm not mistaken, the fan curve setting will no longer work because it's a 3 pin fan, but the strict percentage setting will still work.

If you tell us the make and model of your motherboard I can look up the exact settings in the BIOS.

Yes exactly, which is why I set it at 100% at all times, it's such a quiet fan I can barely hear with an open case anyway :D

CPU heatsink fans have what is called "static pressure" rating, because they hasve to blow air "through" a heatsink.
So you definitely WANT to get those BladeMaster fans as they have great static pressure.

But any fan will work for a temporary solution.

They don't sell them here (electronics are a bit limited and pricy in Latvia)

Open for other suggestions though. I can just mount the current fan on the case so I can order something else for the CPU.

e: unless the sickle flow 120 works as a permanent solution too
i found the blade master on amazon though, ~3-4 weeks delivery time, shipping costs are 3x times of the cooler though so thats not happening

The Cooler Master R4-JFNP-20PK-R1, is also a high static pressure fan. See if it is available in your area.

/e Some others...

Corsair CO-9050013-WW

Noctua NF-F12 120

Scythe Grand Flex SM1225GF12SH-P
