did you know the temp is actually a meaningless metric compared to tdp which is the only important metric? It comes down to surface size, this is why an fx chip could heat up a room better than intel chips even though the core temps were lower, it was distributing it across a much larger die.

and not only is 250 watts not that much (i need a 1500w heater to keep my room warm in the winter), what's the average gpu %tdp under gaming load? doing SHA/bitslice on CUDA i pull like 70-80% tdp on my gpu... haven't done much 'extreme gaming' on it but I would be surprised if in real life it was going over 150-175w tdp often in typical use.

eh then again though those kinds of workloads slam the stream processors harder than any game possibly could... vram and mem bus basically doing nothing and the bus is defo a major source of tdp..

I still use an R9 280x (7970ghz) in my Mac Pro for my daughters school/Youtube computer, never had any issues and it games just fine on the Windows side.
