Well my money income will be based on this PC, since I will work in front of this machine.
Plus it will be used for a lot of entertainment as well.

Well going steel would quadruple the price of the desk, and it would be be close to impossible to do something similar without some weak/ugly welds.
No metalshops in my area would have the machines to do something similar to red harbinger cross desk.

I think i might have to go with MDF. But I could reinforce it with some high grade laminate already in black powder coating look. Would kinda fix the issue with possible water damage and also the longevity to a certain degree, I will have to do some some research on this.
