if i'm on an airplane will the noise get through? doesn't seem to have noise cancellation?

Don't turn the volume up to 11, and you should be OK. Maybe find a Best Buy store and do a demo of noise cancelling vs regular closed back, to hear the difference.

Just got back from a best buy and the Sony's feel more comfortable than the qc 35, gonna do so more research on this on the weekend as I couldn't spend too much time away from work just now

The M50 doesn't have noise cancellation, but it isolates noise well. I've used them on the plane. In-ears will have better isolation, imo. I've used the Shure SE215 on the plane, as well. They're comfortable, portable, and easy to drive.
