I hope you don't use the steam version as it's utter shit

Go to C:\Users\"username"\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile and open your production_Config.ini (use Notepad++ for easy to read mode). Got to the [DISPLAY] section and set as followed:

[DISPLAY]

adapter_name=your GC <- dont change anything here

antialias_mode=8 <- set this to 0

borderless_windowed_fullscreen=false <- fulscreen, borderless windowed, windo etc. You can change this when you start the game. Dont need to change it really

fullscreen=true <- change to false

post_processing=true <- change to false

resolution_height=1050 <- doesnt matter

resolution_width=1680 <- doesnt matter

screen_shake=true <- change to false

shadow_type=variance_mapping <- change to "no_shadows"

texture_filtering=16 <- change to "0"

texture_quality=0 <- generally "0" means highest settings, "2" means low setting, but the really great part is, that u can put in a number way above "2"

idk how far u can push it or if it even registers numbers above "3"... but i use "5"

vsync=false

You dont have to edit the resolution height and width values if you play in windowed mode (maximized) anyway (the resolution doesnt really impact your performance). Save the file and close it. Then rightclick the ini, got to "properties" and set the check mark on "Read-Only" Click "apply" and and "close". Start poe and check your FPS (F1 by deafult). It should go up by around 10-20 per number increased in texture quality (and it will look 2x worse).

Currently pretty sure his heatsink and fan are hanging off his motherboard and causing him to throttle in-game because 68c idle on a haswell- especially a low-power chip like the 4440s, is unreal.

If he's going down to 800mhz while playing due to overheating this stuff won't help sadly... good post though, might let him get some mileage out of that gt 640

uh yeah you need to open that thing up and check it out. Is the heatsink completely gunked up with cigarette smoke/dust? Is it firmly attached to the motherboard? Does it wiggle? Let us know.

Those temps are not okay, for reference max operating temp is like 72c for that cpu so you are within 4 degrees of that while doing nothing.

/e make sure it's turned off/unplugged of course

You will likely have to reseat the heatsink in any case, do you have any TIM?

At the sink

what did you clean in the sink? the heatsink? the entire computer? did you remove the fan from the heatsink first at least? Are you cleaning the part that makes contact with the cpu with rubbing alcohol before putting it back on? You'll want thermal paste before putting it back on, you can get it for a few bucks anywhere that has computer parts.

Also will probably want to clean the heat spreader (the metal exposed part that the heatsink goes on top of) with a bit of rubbing alcohol too.
