@OP What are you using to stress test your overclock?

/e

Naw, it's just the way bulldozer and piledriver are built. The core temp is NOT a linear scale. It's logarithmic. At about 45C (according to AMD engineers) it starts to show the accurate core temp.

i was using valley , i just made a mistake i oc'd it to 5ghz then shut down lol ( CPU )

Valley is a benchmark, not really good as a CPU stress test.

When overclocking you want the CPU to run stable at the highest speed you can get. It needs to be stress tested with a program like Aida64 or Prime95.
AIDA64 is probably the better of the two, as nothing you will ever do on your PC will run the CPU as hard as Prime 95 does.

The stability (stress) test in AIDA64 Extreme is much more realistic when compared to the things we actually do, on a PC.

So get you CPU running at w/e ...say 4.3Ghz and then run Aida64's stability test for about an hour. If the temps are OK and no BSOD or computer lock up, then you can try for, say...4.5Ghz
Rinse and repeat.

Generally the higher the CPU speed, the more voltage it will need to remain stable.

A good first step, when overclocking is to see how LOW you can get the CPU voltage at stock speeds, and still remain stable.
THEN you want to start overclocking.

/e One thing to keep in mind with the piledriver CPUs. The way they are built....inside, is not the same way Intel CPUs are built.
In other words...to be equal in the benchmarks, an FX-8320 has to run at say 4.5GHhz to be as fast as an Intel CPU running at 4Ghz.

It appears that AMD has fixed this problem with the new Ryzen CPUs.

Aida's stress test can also push the gpu and disks simultaneously and imo pushes RAM harder than p95 so it's a good way to test your psu and case's ability to keep everything cool as well

As for the RAM, P95 at default setting (blend), stresses the RAM a lot more than anything else will.

/e Small FFTs and Large FFTs stress the RAM a lot less.
