most everyone is safe now as the kill switch was a domain that an antimalware company registered, basically wcry tried to reach said domain and if it couldn't connect it would keep spreading, but now that all the clients can connect to the domain it's dormant

those already infected are screwed tho. y'all should still be updating your computers.

True, but the malware author could change/remove the domain URL from the code and re-release it. Definitely want to make sure your systems are patched.

hence why you should always update your os!

i even disabled my telemetry disabling software (spybot and oosu10) for the time being, malwarebytes is on early startup and everything, should be good to go.

even if i lose my data nbd, i reformat frequently. just an inconvenience.

Anti-virus software is helping the spread of this worm.

Anti-virus softwares are blocking the contact to the domain flagging it as a malware website. Since the worm can't contact it, it continues to spread.

Didn't I say Anti-virus and Anti-Malware tools are malware themselves :>

if you are infected it doesn't matter to begin with -- the fact it connects to the domain does not decrypt your files, just stops the spread.

so, update your os, and always run your antivirus/antimalware.

public wifi not that risky if you aren't unknowingly connecting to someone's broadcasted wifi
