Right now it sucks to buy a cpu because AMD has the best price/perf by a wide margin, but you have to pay the early adapter headache tax (poor support from os's and mobo manufacturers) to have it. Microcode updates only fix so much. Meanwhile Intel's reasonably priced chips are just bad going into the future because 4 cores that only edge out over Ryzen in single threaded perf because of SMT/RAM bugs. Intel has been working with the same core since pentium III, if Ryzen had no issues coming out of the gate it would have been a stomp, it's a brand new arch.
They still haven't even recompiled most benchmarking software to accommodate Ryzen, they are still unable to take advantage of Ryzen's massive cache, meanwhile they recompile it every time intel releases a new rebranded chip with slightly higher clocks and a few new drm features and instructions no one cares about.
Though really, even with all the issues, ryzen 7 is still worth picking up if you needed a great cpu right now, but if you wait for the next iteration it's not only going to be much faster for the money but by then Intel will also have viable options to consider which is also worth waiting for. Just my 2 cents
Not sure wtf happened with Ryzen 5, kinda disappointed, expected more after PogChamping over Ryzen 7 price/performance for several days straight after it launched.
