What's a good disk test software? I'm not paying for spinrite and I want to see if my 750gb black from 7 years ago is still alright.

K backed up my data. Making a win10 USB drive now. I don't think it's going to work since Aida said my key was activated under a trial although the system menu says it's fully activated.

So I'll try windows 10 first and see if it will activate, else I have Windows 7 on a disk and fax loader nearby.

Edit:: well fuck my w7 disk has a crack right through it. Guess I'll need to download and burn another one.

That's gay.

Edit:: w10 is installing. Will find out if it kept my cracked keys or not in a bit.

This 4tb we black is loud though. Hopefully it goes quiet in its sleep mode since it will be for storage all the time. My old 750gb WD black from 2010 was no where near this loud. It sound more like a tick then anything else. Hopefully it's not a dead drive.

Well windows installed and is activated.

Still have no idea what this grinding ticking is. I don't think it's the hard drive any more since I benched it and heard it spin up fine.

Although it's the only mechanical thing in my chassis besides my fans so idk.

It's going at a constant rate and doesn't stop at all for read/writes.

Any ideas/

My HDD's tick when stressed and often keep ticking afterwards. Never bothered to find out why, just made assumptions like it could be related to small cache files stored on the HDD or something like garbage collection on SSD's.
